Greetings from India!
Jul 24, 2022
Well after about 30+ hours of travel our family of 4 made it to the small South Indian Village of Elurupadu (picture taken and posted with permission).
I was a HUGE adventurer and traveled the world in my 20s... even surviving a 3-4 day transsiberian train trek and illness in the middle of the Mongolian desert. BUT NOTHING HAS TERRIFIED ME MORE THAN TRAVELING TO INDIA WITH TWO SMALL CHILDREN.
I kept putting off visiting my hub's family in India (something so important to him) but after the pandemic it became a deal breaker for him so we had to do it!
I will say there are few things more special than seeing your kids held in the arms of their great grandmother.
I am also reminded of what I loved so much about India as I have been here twice before: the million little stories unfolding on the streets and around you at any moment. The wild, colorful, visceral, and primal nature of the country... and the warmth, kindness, and EXPERT culinary skills of so many here.
I would have LOOOOVED to bring one of the amazing travel nannies I know with us, it just wasn't in the budget (and I know that's true for most of us) but WE ARE DOING IT!
We have a long journey back in a few days and I'm thankful we've all stayed well and healthy so far (minus several bouts of short lived car sickness on the bumpy roads). I am now MORE than confident we can next traverse Italy and the gorgeous isle of Sardinia where some of my family live.
Whew. What has been a big family or nanny family win you NEVER thought possible!?
Looking forward to hearing!
